One of the perks of being an RDHAP Connect member is being featured in a member spotlight on our website and social media pages. Today, we’re spotlighting Mary Gonzalez Arebalo, RDHAP. Read below to learn more about Mary.

I am based in San Diego and began my dental journey as a Dental assistant in 2010. Earned my RDH license from Concorde Career College in 2015 and my RDHAP certification from West Los Angeles College in 2024. I currently own and operate my own dental hygiene practice, which includes a brick-and-mortar location within a senior living facility. In addition, I provide services at an assisted living facility in El Cajon. I also work in private practice alongside a DDS, which allows me to stay actively engaged in a traditional clinical setting while continuing to expand my independent practice.
My decision to become an RDHAP was driven by a strong desire to prioritize my patients’ health above production quotas or time constraints. I believe oral healthcare should be individualized and patient-centered, not rushed or standardized. Once I recognized the significant unmet need, particularly within the geriatric community, I felt even more motivated to expand my services and reach as many individuals as possible.
I maintain referral relationships with local dentists and have taken the time to research providers in the surrounding areas, as many geriatric patients do not drive or have reliable transportation. A large portion of my patient base is Denti-Cal, and I also accept Delta Dental PPO and Cigna PPO. Patients without insurance are seen on a fee-for-service basis. Following treatment, I schedule appropriate follow-up visits and provide referrals to dentists when further evaluation or additional care is needed.
To the public: If you’ve ever felt like just another name on a schedule especially because of your unique needs or disabilities — we see you, we hear you, and we know exactly where you belong. You belong with an RDHAP: a model of care that puts prevention first, values your individuality, and centers your health above all else. No two people are alike, so why should their care be?
To my fellow RDH’s and APs: If you’re licensed and unsure where to start, or ready to practice with autonomy, reach out. Be part of the independent movement and a community that believes in prevention, purpose, and practicing with intention.
RDHAP’s are here to serve, to educate, and to protect the integrity of patient-centered care.
