Meet Cheryl A. Greer, a dedicated Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice who is making a meaningful impact in her community through compassionate, accessible oral healthcare. At RDHAP Connect, we’re proud to highlight professionals like
Cheryl, whose commitment to serving patients outside of traditional dental settings exemplifies the heart of the RDHAP model. In this member spotlight, you’ll learn more about Cheryl A. Greer, RDHAP, her journey into alternative practice, and the difference she’s making for patients who need care the most.

For Cheryl A. Greer, becoming a Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDHAP) was not merely a career choice; it was a profound calling shaped by her life experiences, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to serving those often overlooked by traditional healthcare systems.
As the owner of Cheryl A. Greer RDHAP, Inc., she provides portable dental hygiene services throughout Los Angeles County, reaching patients wherever they are in their lives, physically or mentally. Her work impacts individuals in homes, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and schools, many of whom face significant barriers to accessing care.
Cheryl’s journey began in East St. Louis, Illinois, an industrial suburb facing economic challenges and limited resources. Growing up in a family of seven, she experienced poverty first-hand, and at just seven years old, she survived a life-changing event of being struck by a drunk driver, shaping her perspective on purpose and life.
At 16, her family sought greater opportunities in Atlanta, Georgia, where Cheryl began laying the foundation for her career in dental hygiene. She earned her Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from Georgia Perimeter College in 2004, starting a journey that would take her across the country and beyond. As a military spouse, she practiced in various states and Guam, gaining diverse clinical experience and a broad understanding of patient needs in different communities.
Cheryl’s relentless pursuit of knowledge led her back to academia, and she earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Georgia Highlands College in 2022, graduating summa cum laude. She then completed her RDHAP training at California Northstate University, expanding her ability to serve patients with complex medical and accessibility challenges. Yet her motivation runs deeper than mere professional growth.

Having grown up alongside a sister with special needs and now caring for a mother with dementia, Cheryl intimately understands the gaps in care. She knows what happens when patients can’t communicate pain, when small issues go unnoticed, and when access to care is simply lacking. This insight fuels her mission daily.
Her practice model is simple but powerful: remove barriers. Cheryl brings fully portable equipment directly to patients, providing preventive and therapeutic care, including X-rays, without requiring them to leave their familiar environments. For bedridden patients, this means receiving treatment in their own beds, allowing for dignity and comfort. Every aspect of her care meets OSHA and infection-control standards equivalent to those of a traditional dental office.
In a typical day, Cheryl travels between locations, sets up portable equipment, treats patients, and educates both individuals and their caregivers. Education is a cornerstone of her approach because long-term health extends beyond the appointment. She provides tailored oral hygiene instruction to each patient’s abilities and ensures caregivers are confident in continuing care between visits.
Collaboration is vital as well. Cheryl works closely with a network of dentists and physicians to coordinate treatment when advanced care is necessary, whether in-office or through referrals. She also utilizes teledentistry to connect patients with providers in real time, enhancing access and expediting decision-making.
Her services are accessible with multiple payment options, including Medi-Cal Dental, Health Net, Delta Dental (recognized provider), Westside Regional Center, and fee-for-service, ensuring financial limitations do not create additional barriers.
Beyond clinical care, Cheryl is a leader and advocate within her profession. She serves as a Councilmember for Alternative Practice with the California Dental Hygienists’ Association and is the Immediate Past President of the Los Angeles Dental Hygiene Society. As a proud member of RDHAP Connect and the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, she remains deeply connected to her community.

At the heart of her work is a larger vision: closing the gap in healthcare disparities and creating a system where access is a standard, not a privilege.
Her message to families and caregivers is clear: don’t try to carry everything alone. Support exists, and collaboration is the key to better outcomes. To the broader community, her call is just as poignant: if you see a need, step in.
In Cheryl’s world, care doesn’t remain behind office doors; it arrives where it’s needed.
“Everyone deserves compassionate care with dignity and respect.”
